March 2nd - March 6th

March 2nd - March 6th

Highlights

Poetry
Students have been continuing to look at a variety of literary devices including; personification, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, and onomatopoeia.  They started to write their own Haikus which is a 5, 7, 5 syllable poem.  The students were very creative and humorous when writing their own Haikus based around nature.

Social Studies
In Social Studies, we are continuing our study of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada.  We finished the Plains region of Canada and are now learning about the Northwest Coast Region. Students have learned about the importance of the Land Acknowledgement, the significance of the totem poles, and why Potlatch ceremonies are so important.

Science
Chemistry has begun!! Our unit started out with a cool experiment or Elephant Toothpaste where we observed how a chemical reaction happened.  We will be looking at the 3 different states of matter on earth as well as touching on the fourth state of matter, plasma. We came up with a definition of chemistry as : the study of matter, what it is made up of, how it behaves and how it changes.

Math
We have completed our Measurement and Geometry Unit.  A unit test was completed on Friday (today)  and will be passed back early next week.  We will be starting our Graphing Unit on Monday.  Many students have corrections to make in their math book.

CAD
On Friday, we had our 2nd CAD.  Please ask your child which CAD group they are in and what they did with their multi-aged group.

Buddies
This week we spent some time with our Grade 2 Buddies and made a St.Patrick’s Day craft.

Physical Education
Next Friday March 13th we will be having our Winter Sports Day snow or not!  Lunch will run from 11:30am-12:00pm and students will not be going outside to eat. Instead, at 12:00pm students will return to their classrooms for attendance and then head to the gym for the kick off assembly.  If you are available to volunteer for this event please contact Anna Latham at ajlatham@cbe.ab.ca
