November 4th - November 8th

November 4th - November 8th

Highlights:

Art- This week the students got to place their handprints on the school mural created by Ryan Willert.  The mural will be presented to the parents by an elder on November 28th during an evening celebration.  More details to follow next week.

Math- We are continuing to work through our Number Sense Unit.  We have completed our addition and subtraction and are currently working on rounding numbers to the tens, hundreds and thousands place.  We had an addition and subtraction quiz on Monday which was handed back to the students this week.  Please check their backpacks for these quizzes.

Science- The students are beginning to study specific wetland animals, insects, birds and plants.  They have been working on creating a wetland riddle with rhymes and facts about their specific wetland animal. Our next step is to create an imaginative creature that has specific behavioural and structural adaptations.

Social- The Amazing Race continues across Canada!  The students embarked on the Arctic Region and participated in a class competition of Arctic Games.  We tried the knuckle hop and the one foot high kick.  They did an amazing and showed us their determination, strength, endurance and agility while trying these new events.

Reminders:

Student-Led Conferences- Please mark Friday November 15th at 4:00 on your calendars as this is the day that conference manager opens to book conferences.  Please remember that only a limited amount of people are able to book at certain time slots and drop-ins are not easily accommodated.  If you need a specific time then please book early as our times fill up fast!

Headphones- Please send your kids with a cheap set of headphones.

Pack In and Pack out!- Starting this year, we have been attempting to reduce our SVS ecological footprint by moving towards a “Pack In and Pack Out” philosophy.  Once a student has eaten their lunch or snack, the packaging of that item will be put back into lunch kits and returned home for recycling. In continuing to support this positive change, please provide a locking baggie for items such as apple cores, yogurt tubes etc. The baggie will be returned home with the student each day for composting at home and then could be added back into the lunch kit for the next day.  Help us make a difference!

Materials Needed- Please continue to bring in any unwanted shoe and/or cereal boxes for an upcoming art project.
