Week of November 25-29

Highlights:

Our ‘Gathering and Giving’ evening last night was well attended. Parents and students were treated to wonderful First Nations’ dances and the unveiling of our Buffalo mural.  Then families had an opportunity to participate in one of the many activities throughout the school which focussed on giving.  Please click on the link and skip to 11:42 to catch a glimpse of our Indigenous artist who worked on our mural.  Mural

This week we continued to read our novel, The City of Ember and wrapped up our Science investigations of Alberta wetlands.  In Math, we continued to work on multiplication of small and large numbers.

Reminders:

Calgary Food Bank
From now until December 17th we will be collecting non-perishable food for the Calgary Food Bank.  Foodbank boxes are now placed around the school to accept any and all donations.

April 17th We hope that everyone is staying safe, healthy and adjusting to our new normal.  The switch to on-line teaching has had its challenges but it also has given us an opportunity to learn new ways of reaching our students while learning new computer programs.  We have now been on-line for 3 weeks and have been assigning daily assignments in all subjects.  We have had lots of kids checking the Google classroom on a daily basis and completing all assigned work.  But we have noticed that many students are not checking the Stream on a daily basis or turning in work on a regular basis.  We understand that all families are faced with their own challenges around computer sharing, parents working from home and support with assignments.  The teachers are available during the day for emails and we have bi-weekly open chat times that the kids can log on and access us for help.  Please ask your child on a daily basis what assignments they are working on...

Highlights: We have had a wonderful first full week and we have been enjoying getting to know your child. This week, students have been writing their story about Where they are Now and Where they will be in 50 Years for Language Arts. They have also enjoyed looking at pictures of what they might look like in 50 years, using an age app!  In Science, we have started our Wetlands Unit and are looking at the different types of wetlands by completing a visual journal page and watching a Bill Nye video.  In Social Studies, we are starting to explore the different provinces, territories and capital cities in Canada and will be labelling and colouring a Canada Map next week. Reminders: Snack/Lunch: We now have an afternoon recess break but the students will still be given a snack break in the classroom around 10:30 am and a healthy nutritious peanut -free snack is best for our morning snack (granola bars, yogourt, cheese, crackers, fruit).  You know your child best, so pl...
